NEW YORK, May 4 (UPI) -- Comedian Marc Maron said snipers had to dot the rooftops of his neighborhood when President Barack Obama insisted on being on his podcast, "WTF."
"It's crazy, man...the President doesn't just casually drop by, it's sort of an ordeal...I had to ask my neighbor if we could put snipers on his roof," he explained. "He was excited, he's retired. He's like 'Great! Great, something's happening.'"
Maron interviewed the Commander-in-Chief in June of last year from his garage. "IT WAS INSANE!" Maron wrote in a note on his website at the time. "The conversation wasn't insane. The reality of the situation was. I still can't really wrap my head around it or believe it happened."
During his Tonight Show interview, Maron also told the story of smoking his first cigarette in 10 years during an interview with his idol, Keith Richards, at the NPR headquarters. Richards caused a slight uproar ahead of Maron's meeting, he told Fallon, because he began smoking cigarettes from inside the recording studio.
"I used to smoke Marlboros, and I used to smoke Marlboros but now I do, like, nicotine lozenges, so I show him my nicotine lozenges," Maron said. "So I ask him, and say 'can I just hold one?'...And at some point in the middle of the interview I'm just being this baby with my unlit cigarette, Keith just pauses and he looks at me and he throws a lighter at me."
"And I thought in my head, 'I haven't smoked one of these in 10 years but if there's ever a time to smoke a cigarette, it's with Keith Richards," he said.
