LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- Modern Family star Ariel Winter is headed to the University of California Los Angeles.
The 18-year-old actress revealed she accepted the college's offer of admission by posting a screenshot of her admission contract Wednesday on Instagram.
"It's an amazing day! I'm going to UCLA - thank you to everyone who has been there for me on this journey! #bruinsbaby," she captioned the photo.
Winter, who has been homeschooled since the second grade, told E! News in May she plans to become a lawyer. The actress graduates from high school this year and toured schools on both the West and East Coast.
"I would love to continue acting but it's definitely important, I think, to go and do something else as well," Winter said. "You never know if something's not going to work out, if one day acting is like, 'No, we don't like you anymore!'"
"You gotta have something else you can do," she advised. "I've always been interested in law so I think it'll definitely be something that I'll love to do and also go to school for."
Winter landed her first TV and movie roles at age 7 and was 11 when Modern Family premiered in 2009. She recently told Good Morning America her mom, Chrisoula Workman, was a typical stage mom who "pushed [her] very hard."
"I did have a really, really hard childhood," the star admitted. "It wasn't normal. It wasn't what I should have had. It wasn't a supportive, loving home. I had a really tough time."
Winter was granted legal emancipation in May after alleging her mom was emotionally and physically abusive. The actress plays Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, which airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
