Superman prequel series 'Krypton' to get pilot order from SyFy

LOS ANGELES, April 22 (UPI) -- Syfy's long-in-development Superman prequel series Krypton is finally getting the green light.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the cable network is close to finalizing a deal to order the superhero drama to pilot.

Originally announced in 2014, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer who penned 2013's Man of Steel and co-wrote its sequel, the recently released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) is also attached to the project as showrunner along with director Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) who will helm the pilot. Ian Goldberg wrote the pilot along with Goyer.

Set two generations before the birth of Superman, Krypton will follow the iconic hero's grandfather as he tries to restore his family's name, the House of El, and save his home planet.

Krypton joins the growing list of DC Comics-related television shows, including the CW's Arrow, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, CBS' Supergirl and the Batman prequel series Gotham on Fox. The shows have no connection, however, to Warner Bros. upcoming slate of DC films such as Justice League: Part One.
