LOS ANGELES, March 10 (UPI) -- Scream will return in May with several new additions to the cast.

The MTV series, which is based on late director Wes Craven's horror films of the same name, announced a May 31 premiere date and a list of Season 2 cast members Thursday.

Willa Fitzgerald will reprise Emma Duvall, who returns to Lakewood after attempting to recover from the events of Season 1 at a retreat. MTV reports the character's friends and family question whether she is truly over "the deeply traumatic turn of events."

Carlson Young and Tom Maden, meanwhile, will return as Brooke and Jake, who are now officially dating. John Karna will reprise Noah, with Bex Taylor-Klaus as Audrey, Tracy Middendorf as Maggie and Amadeus Serafini as Kieran.

Newcomers for Season 2 include Kiana Lede as Zoe, an overachieving student "who harbors a secret." Austin Highsmith will portray Karen, a "young, idealistic" psychology teacher, with Karina Logue as a "proper and polite" grifter.

Sean Grandillo joins as Eli, Kieran's "squeaky-clean" but suspect cousin, with Anthony Ruivivar as Michael, a Lakewood native who returns to become sheriff. Santiago Segura will play Gustavo, Michael's "dark and brooding" son.

"If Season 1 was powered by this immediate fear of a killer being on the loose and the killer is looking for revenge, Season 2 is going to be Emma being activated a bit more ... her being more proactive in terms of digging into her past," executive producer Jill Blotevogel told EW.

"We've seen a lot of hints of the dark sides of our various characters," she added. "I think it's going to be digging into that and uncovering what's within our characters."

Scream Season 1 premiered in June to mixed reviews, but was nominated for three awards at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. Bella Thorne, Amelia Rose Blair and Jason Wiles are among the stars who won't return for Season 2.
