Sarah Michelle Gellar marks 19th birthday of TV's 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

LOS ANGELES, March 10 (UPI) -- Sarah Michelle Gellar marked the 19th birthday of her iconic supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a special message on Instagram Thursday.

"19 years ago tonight, I got to introduce you to #buffyannesummers (and #mrpointy too) thank you for taking the incredible journey with me and continuing still. I am and forever will be #grateful," read her post, which accompanied a Season 1 photo of the actress.

The Joss Whedon-created show premiered on March 10, 1997, and ran seven seasons.

Co-starring Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, James Marsters, Anthony Head, Charisma Carpenter and Seth Green, the series followed a group of young adults as they repeatedly saved the world from various demons and monsters.
