CULVER CITY, Calif., March 9 (UPI) -- Christina Aguilera took part in an impromptu duet on stage of The Voice with returning competitor Joe Maye.

The 35-year-old singer and television personality stepped out of her chair Tuesday night after Maye's performance of "I Put a Spell on You."

"That is one of my favorite songs in the whole wide world to sing. I'd actually love to sing that with you one day," Aguilera said before fellow coach Pharrell Williams prompted her to perform it then.

After the surprise duet, Maye -- who returned to the show after failing to turn any chairs during season 9 -- chose to be on Aguilera's team and excitedly celebrated yelling "Oh my god!"

Tuesday night's episode of The Voice also saw the re-emergence of onetime colleague to Beyonce Knowels before the creation of Destiny's Child, Tamar Davis.

The singer, who also joined Aguilera's squad, was one of the six members of Girl's Tyme -- the girl band that later became the iconic R&B trio consisting of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Davis, 35, has since gone to college and appeared on Tyler Perry productions and performed "Chain of Fools," before turning chairs during her audition.

"It's time for her to step out of the background," Aguilera said.
