Jane Brucker played Lisa in the original 1987 romantic drama, while Baby and her love interest, Johnny Castle, were portrayed by Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. Breslin was announced as Baby in December.

Dirty Dancing follows the romance between Baby, a sheltered teenager, and Johnny, a working-class dance instructor. Lisa, who is more outgoing than her sister, falls for Robbie, a womanizing waiter played by Max Cantor in the movie.

Former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger will play Penny Johnson, a role originated by Cynthia Rhodes, in the new film. Actor and dancer Colt Prattes was cast as Johnny in February.

The Sapphires director Wayne Blair will helm the TV remake. Glee music producers Adam Anders and Peer Astrom will oversee the music, with Anders and Crazy Heart producer Jody Cairo as co-producers.
