LOS ANGELES, March 2 (UPI) -- Former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger will play the role of Penny in the upcoming Dirty Dancing TV remake.

The singer and Dancing With The Stars Season 10 winner joins Abigail Breslin, Colt Prattes, and Debra Messing in the three-hour ABC musical.

Penny's character in the original film was known as Patrick Swayze character Johnny's dance partner. She helped Baby, then played by Jennifer Grey, learn to dance.

Scherzinger has appeared in such productions as How I Met Your Mother and Men in Black 3. She has also co-hosted NBC's Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris. After the Pussycat Dolls broke up, Scherzinger was a judge on The Sing-Off and The X-Factor.

The news comes shortly after Colt Prattes was announced as the male lead for the upcoming remake. Prattes, a singer, dancer and actor recently seen in Rock of Ages, first came to fame from Pink's 2012 music video for "Try."
