Finn Jones cast in lead role for Netflix's 'Iron Fist'

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Game of Thrones star Finn Jones as been cast has the main character in Netflix's upcoming superhero drama, Iron Fist.

Known for his role as Ser Loras Tyrell on the HBO series, Jones will now be portraying Daniel Rand, a martial arts master who first appeared in Marvel comics in 1974.

Returning home to New York City after a long journey, Rand utilizes the mystical power of the Iron Fist to enhance his abilities to superhuman levels in order to fight crime.

Iron Fist is the fourth collaboration between Netflix and Marvel following Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the forthcoming Luke Cage. Iron Fist is expected to premiere ahead of the planned Defenders crossover which would bring all four heroes into one series.

Originally portrayed as a white male in the comics, many fans speculated Iron Fist would perhaps be played by an Asian actor, however Netflix has chosen to stick with the source material.

Jones will next appear on Season 6 of Game of Thrones while Netflix's Marvel slate continues with Season 2 of Daredevil on March 18.
