'Straight Outta Compton,' 'Empire,' 'black-ish' win top honors at the NAACP Image Awards

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Straight Outta Compton was named Best Picture, and its star O'Shea Jackson, Jr., Best Supporting Actor in a Film, at the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Friday night.

Creed lead Michael B. Jordan was declared Entertainer of the Year and Best Actor in a Film, while his co-star Tessa Thompson went home with the Best Supporting Actress in a Film trophy.

Sanaa Lathan earned the accolade of Best Actress in a Film for her performance in The Perfect Guy.

Empire and black-ish scored the top awards of Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series in the television categories.

Empire co-stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson won for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama, and black-ish cast mates Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross won for Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series.

Anderson also hosted the gala.
