Sophie Skelton to play Brianna on 'Outlander'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- British actress Sophie Skelton is set to play Brianna, the daughter of Jamie and Claire, in Season 2 of the time-travel drama Outlander, Starz announced Thursday.

The small-screen adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's best-selling, fantasy novels stars Sam Heughan as Jamie and Caitriona Balfe as Claire.

"The wait is over! Meet Sophie Skelton (@skeltonsophie), who will be playing our beloved Brianna," the cable-television network tweeted.

"So excited to be joining the #Outlander team and be working with Cait, Sam and Richard!" Skelton said in her own Twitter post.

"The biggest welcome to my TV daughter ... Welcome to the family. So happy to have you onboard," was Balfe's online greeting.

Heughan also weighed in with the message: "Pah! Still think I should have been Bree.... Still, welcome @SkeltonSophie !!! Smashed it. Now. Behave. Daughter."

Skelton is known for her roles on the U.K. television shows Casualty, Foyle's War and DCI Banks.
