"I had claimed 2016 to be my year of "chillin the [expletive] out" but next to my bed for a few years now has been this portrait of W.A. & I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be apart of the cast and work alongside the bad a$$ Elaine May & da dude himself! 1960zzzz here I cummmmm."

Allen wrote and will direct the show, which remains known as the Untitled Woody Allen Project.

"Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all time, and it's an honor to be working with him on his first television series," Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios, said in a statement when the project was first announced in 2015. "From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year."

"I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this," Allen added.
