BEVERLY HILLS , Calif., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Netflix says it is working on a 13-episode re-boot of the sitcom One Day at a Time.

"A reimagining of the Norman Lear classic, centering on a Cuban-American family," the streaming giant said in a news release.

"Our heroine is a recently separated, former military mom navigating a new single life while raising her radical, teenaged daughter and socially adept tween son, with the 'help' of her old-school, Cuban-born mom and a friends-without-benefits, building-manager named Schneider."

No casting or premiere date have been announced yet.

Mike Royce and Gloria Calderon Kellett are the show's writers and executive producers, while Lear, Michael Garcia and Brent Miller will also serve as executive producers.

The original series ran 1975-84, and starred Bonnie Franklin, Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli.

Pat Harrington Jr., who created the role of Schneider, died last week after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 86.
