LONDON, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The 90-minute television special Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was seen in the United Kingdom by about 8.4 million viewers, the BBC said.
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the program aired on the BBC in Britain and PBS in the United States on Friday night. The American numbers were not immediately available Saturday.
The TV movie was sandwiched between Seasons 3 and 4 of the iconic, mystery series Sherlock, which takes place in contemporary London and is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Victorian era-set stories.
The Abominable Bride transports modern-day sleuth Sherlock Holmes and his partner John Watson to the late 19th century of Doyle's source material. It will be released in select theaters later this month.
