LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Bob Newhart will be returning to the hit CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory for a fourth time reprising his role as Arthur Jeffries, aka Professor Proton.

Newhart's character was last seen during Season 7 when Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, learned that his childhood hero Professor Proton had died. Jeffries would later appear to Sheldon in a dream as a robbed Jedi from Star Wars who was able to help Sheldon through a tough time.

Newhart is set to return a day before the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Dec. 17 where he will once again offer Jedi guidance to the emotionally stunted character and help Sheldon "sort out his feelings and make a very important decision," according to CBS.

Showrunner Steve Molaro mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter at the start of Season 9 that the door was always open for Newhart to return. "That is something that has been in the back of my mind," Molaro said of bringing the beloved actor back. "And that's something that I hope will work out. We adore Bob and we are so proud that he is a member of our family and yes, somewhere in here is a fantastic opportunity for that."
