NEW YORK, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Designer Ashley Tipton has won Project Runway Season 14 after she impressed judges with the competition's first ever plus-size collection.

Tipton was crowned champion Thursday beating out fashion hopefuls Candice Cuoco, Kelly Dempsey and Edmond Newton. "These definitely are happy tears," she said after winning. "Thank you so much."

The 24-year-old who has mainly designed straight-size clothes during the competition decided to enter the finale by designing a plus-size collection never before seen on the show.

"I would describe my style as having fun and being funky, showing your personality through your clothing and having fun with it," Tipton told E! News ahead of the first part of the finale. "That's what I love to design—I love to design the clothing that is not out there for your average plus size woman, and I want to fill in the gap of that industry and not design cookie cutter things."

Tipton also hopes that her designs and her success can bring about some change in the fashion industry.

"I hope that I'm starting something, where people feel that it is expected to have plus-size models walk in New York Fashion Week," Tipton said to People magazine. "I hope this starts a whole revolution, that plus-size is accepted in fashion."
