LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Screenwriter and producer Shonda Rhimes is now helping develop a new series for ABC that works as a sequel to William Shakespeare's tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet.

The new drama, based on author Melinda Taub's book Still Star-Crossed, will depict the aftermath and conflict that arises between the Capulet and Montague families following Romeo and Juliet's deaths.

Rhimes will be executive producing the show through her ShondaLand production company along with the executive producer of Scandal, Heather Mitchell, who is also taking on writing duties.

The news comes after ABC picked up two other ShondaLand projects including a divorce comedy entitled Splitsville and an unnamed nun drama.

Currently Rhimes is dominating television on Thursday nights as her three highly rated hit shows Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder all air back to back.
