NEW YORK, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Laverne Cox has been cast in Fox's forthcoming "Rocky Horror Picture Show" remake.

The 31-year-old actress will play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the two-hour television movie in fall 2016. Cox confirmed the news on social media Wednesday, writing, "I am so honored to be a part of the Rocky Horror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt #TransIsBeautiful."

Dr. Frank-N-Furter is a self-described "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" who creates the title character, Rocky Horror, in his lab. Tim Curry originated the role in the 1973 musical, and also starred in the 1975 movie adaptation.

Hocus Pocus and High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega will direct, choreograph and executive produce the remake. The Rocky Horror Picture Show producer Lou Adler and The Jackal Group co-founder Gail Berman will co-executive produce.

Cox is a transgender actress best known for playing Sophia Burset on Netflix series Orange is the New Black. She was nominated for an Emmy for the role in 2014, and will star in the CBS pilot Doubt with Katherine Heigl.
