Cameron Crowe pilot 'Roadies' picked up at Showtime

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Cameron Crowe pilot Roadies was ordered to series this week at Showtime.

The 58-year-old director announced the news on his website Wednesday, writing, "Yes! Roadies has been picked up by Showtime. Stay tuned for 10 stories about life, music, love and all points in between." He included a link to the music drama's teaser trailer.

Crowe will executive produce the project with J.J. Abrams, Winnie Holzman and Bryan Burk, with Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis as producer and music supervisor. The series follows the tight-knit road crew who tour with the fictional rock band Staton-House.

"I've long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast," the director said in a statement. "The actors are all so passionate about music, too, and the whole show has the feeling of stories and music shared between friends."

Luke Wilson will star as the group's tour manager, with Carla Gugino as the production manager. Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor, Machine Gun Kelly, Ron White, Luis Guzman, Jacqueline Byers and Finesses Mitchell also have roles.

Crowe is known for Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, and last directed Aloha. Abrams co-created several successful TV series, including Alias and Lost, and directed Star Trek (2009) and its sequel. He will next release Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
