NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Ne-Yo stars as the Tin Man in his first The Wiz Live! photo.
The 35-year-old singer will play the heart-seeking character in the upcoming NBC production. Ne-Yo shared the picture Tuesday on Facebook, writing, "So excited to play the TIN MAN. Can't wait for you to see The Wiz on December 3!"
"He is a woodsman translated into the world of tin," costume designer Paul Tazewell told People magazine. "It's much more literal to work clothing than it is created out of a patchwork of metal. And it's topped off with a tree-worker's metal hat."
Ne-Yo's co-stars, Shanice Williams, David Alan Grier and Elijah Kelley can be seen in costume in a promo for the show released Monday. Williams will portray Dorothy, with Grier as the Cowardly Lion and Kelley as the Scarecrow.
The Wiz Live! also features Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evilene, the Wicked Witch of the East, Uzo Aduba as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, Amber Riley as Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North, Stephanie Mills as Auntie Em and Common as Bouncer.
The Wiz Live! is based on the 1974 musical The Wiz, which itself is inspired by the L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Wiz was adapted into a 1978 film of the same name starring Diana Ross, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross and Michael Jackson.
