HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- ABC Network is bringing back television classic Fantasy Island with a couple of twists fitting for today's audiences.
According to Variety, the network partnered with Sony Pictures Television to create the new series not only with a female lead, but a fresh concept reminiscent of the original series' fictional island that people visited to live-out their wildest dreams.
Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air, X-Men: First Class) penned the new version's script, which focuses on a more adult version of the Fantasy Island concept.
According to Deadline, the new take "centers on a brilliant, dynamic and sexy woman who runs a San Francisco-based company that provides clients with his or her most intimate, dark or outlandish fantasy."
The new Fantasy Island will be executive produced by both Turner, Jennifer Klein and Josh Berman.
The series originally emerged onto the small screen after being created in the mid-1970s by Gene Levitt. It was first a TV movie before morphing into a regular occurring television program starring the same actors -- Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize -- as host Mr. Roarke and Tattoo.
The show was first rebooted in the late 1990s, starring Malcolm McDowell but soon flopped.
