LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- An updated version of the classic, 1980s action-drama MacGyver is now in development at CBS.

"A reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening," a CBS Studios synopsis obtained by Entertainment Weekly revealed.

Leading the revival are Furious 7 director James Wan and CBS' Scott Gemmill. Michael Clear and Henry Winkler are among the project's executive producers. No casting has been disclosed.

Starring Richard Dean Anderson as secret agent Angus MacGyver, the original show ran for seven seasons on ABC from 1985 to 1992. It was followed by a pair of TV movies in the mid-1990s.
