Cynthia Nixon to guest star on Season 2 of 'The Affair'

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Cynthia Nixon is to guest star on Season 2 of The Affair, Showtime announced.

Best known for her work in Sex and the City, the 49-year-old actress will soon be seen playing Marilyn Sanders, a "direct and challenging Manhattan couples therapist who is helping Noah and Alison come together after a period of strain," a news release said.

Dominic West and Ruth Wilson portray Noah and Alison, the passionate pair at the center of the series. The sophomore run of the show "explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together."

Season 2 of the romantic drama is currently in production in New York. It will premiere on Showtime Sunday, but the first episode is now available for streaming online.

The ensemble also includes Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney.
