LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Once Upon a Time executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have confirmed the fairytale-themed series will feature a same-sex relationship this season.
Entertainment Weekly said it asked the ABC show's bosses if they plan to elaborate on Mulan's feelings for Aurora in the near future. The roles are played by actresses Jamie Chung and Sarah Bolger.
"We know that [the LGBT] community have been big supporters of the show and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that," Kitsis said.
"We want the show to reflect the world as it is now," added Horowitz. "Whether that's going to be with any particular character, we're not going to say."
"But it is something that we're going to do this year," stated Kitsis.
"It's something we want to do this year," Horowitz emphasized. "It's something we think is due and important to do on the show. This is the world we live in."
Season 5 of the live-action series is to debut Sept. 27. The show puts a new spin on characters and stories previously explored in classic Disney movies. It stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas and Robert Carlyle.
