LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Mamma Mia! and Big Love actress Amanda Seyfried is to have a major role as a new character in the sequel to the 1990s-era drama series Twin Peaks.

TV Line was the first to report the 29-year-old starlet will appear in several episodes of the revived show, but the media outlet said it had no details about who she will play.

Showtime has declined to comment on the story.

Twin Peaks co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost have written all of the episodes for the 2016 continuation.

Starring Kyle MacLachlan, the original, Washington-set, mystery series ran for two seasons 1990-91. MacLachlan is expected to return for the updated version.

Seyfried's other small-screen credits include Veronica Mars, Wildfire, All My Children and As the World Turns.
