LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Banks, Josh Groban, Laurence Fishburne, Tom Bergeron, Jay Leno, Lea Thompson and Imagine Dragons are to guest star in the new ABC series The Muppets.

The small-screen comedy features the iconic puppets Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Pepe the King Prawn, Rizzo, Scooter and Rowlf in a mockumentary-style program about the making of a TV talk show.

The Sept. 22 series premiere finds Miss Piggy furious that Kermit has booked Banks as a guest on her late-night chat program Up Late with Miss Piggy. The pilot episode of The Muppets will also see Fozzie Bear meeting his girlfriend's parents, while Imagine Dragons will perform its new single "Roots."

The second installment of The Muppets is scheduled to air Sept. 29.

"In an attempt to make Miss Piggy happy, Kermit sets her up with Josh Groban, who fills her head with ideas on how to make Up Late with Miss Piggy better," a synopsis for the episode said. "Meanwhile, Fozzie is invited to a party at Jay Leno's house and everyone is annoyed that Bobo is selling cookies for his daughter's troop."
