SILVER SPRING , Md., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Detectorists, the new British comedy starring Mackenzie Crook, Toby Jones and Rachael Stirling, is now streaming in the United States on Acorn TV.

Crook also wrote and directed the critically acclaimed series about two "oddball, metal-detecting enthusiasts scouring the English countryside for treasure."

The six-episode, freshman season aired on the BBC last fall and won BAFTA Awards for Best Scripted Comedy and Best Comedy Writing. All of Season 1 premiered in the United States on Acorn TV Monday and select public television stations will start airing the series later this year.

A second season is currently in production.

"Andy's girlfriend, Becky, is none too pleased about the amount of time he sinks into his fruitless hobby, and even less so when a female colleague enters the equation," a synopsis said. "Lance, meanwhile, is still hopelessly in love with his ex-wife -- and finds several embarrassing ways to show it. Behind the most excruciating moments lies a winning combination of warmth, eccentricity, and humanity."
