NEW YORK, May 31 (UPI) -- NBC says it is having an open casting call on June 6 in New York for the lead role of Dorothy in the network's upcoming holiday special The Wiz Live!

Casting directors will be looking for an African-American woman who is 18-27 years old.

"She must have an extraordinary voice that can tell a story, as well as be mature with a youthful energy," a news release said. "Candidates need to be prepared to sing the songs 'Home,' 'Ease on Down the Road' and 'Be a Lion' from the original Broadway production of The Wiz."

To be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the Dec. 3 broadcast will feature Cirque du Soleil performers. The company's new stage theatrical division will co-produce the live TV event and then present it as a major Broadway revival for the 2016-17 season.

Director Kenny Leon will stage both productions in collaboration with Broadway icon Harvey Fierstein, who will contribute new material to the original Broadway book by William F. Brown.
