NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Golden Globe-winner and Academy Award-nominee J.K. Simmons is to host Saturday Night Live in New York Jan. 31, NBC announced Tuesday.
This will mark the actor's first appearance as SNL emcee.
"D'Angelo will also make his musical guest debut along with his band The Vanguard," the network said in a news release. "After a 14-year hiatus, his latest album Black Messiah received wide acclaim from critics and fans worldwide."
Simmons is earning accolades for his work in the film Whiplash. His other credits include TV's Law & Order, The Closer and Oz, as well as the big-screen comedy Juno and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
