"It's set in the late '70s against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan's first campaign for President of the United States. Reagan is a character in it," says FX's John Langraf.

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- FX Chief Executive Officer John Langraf says Season 2 of the anthology series Fargo will feature Ronald Reagan as a character.

The crime dramedy's sophomore outing will be a prequel to the season that aired last year. Patrick Wilson will play a younger version of Lou Solverson, the character Keith Carradine originated in Season 1.

"[Season 2] covers something that was referenced in the first installment by Lou Solverson, Molly Solverson's father," Langraf told television critics in Pasadena during the weekend. "It's a big sprawling, in some ways, more comedic [season], though at times, a very serious show. It's set in the late '70s against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan's first campaign for President of the United States. Reagan is a character in it."

Langraf separately told Entertainment Weekly the show's producers plan to cast an actor to play Reagan as opposed to using archival footage of the real-life film star-turned-president.

"Reagan will be interacting with our characters," he said.
