LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Fox's "Gracepoint" -- an American remake of BBC series "Broadchurch" -- won't be coming back for a second season after dismal ratings.

The murder mystery series had unattractive ratings to begin with and things only got worse during last week's finale.

"Gracepoint" debuted with 4.8 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That had fallen to 4 million viewers and a 0.9 rating by the finale.

The series starred Anna Gunn and "Doctor Who's" David Tennant, the actor who also helmed the British version of the series, "Broadchurch." The BBC series fared much better than its American counterpart and is returning for a second season in February.

"Gracepoint," like "Broadchurch," had been billed as a one-season, standalone series, but it's likely it would have been picked up for a second season had it done well.
