Mark Hamill to reprise role as Trickster on 'The Flash'

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Mark Hamill will reprise his role as the Trickster on the CW's series The Flash.

The 63-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, first played the Trickster in the 1990s CBS series. He later reprised the role on the animated series Justice League, where he also voiced The Joker and Solomon Grundy.

The Trickster is the pseudonym of James Jesse, a DC Comics super villain who is a practical joker and conman. But according to the CW, the new iteration of the character will be slightly different than the original.

"The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and detective West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original's deadly footsteps," the channel said in its official description of the character.

Hamill joins John Wesley Shipp and Amanda Pays, who appeared on both the original series and the new one. Shipp played Barry Allen/ The Flash on the CBS version and currently plays the super hero's father, and Pays will reprise her Dr. Tina McGee character in an upcoming episode of the show.

"Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash," Flash Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told HitFix. "Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!"

The CW's The Flash premiered to 4.2 million viewers on Oct. 7 and was picked up for a full season later that month. Gustin stars on the show as Barry Allen/ The Flash.
