NEW YORK, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Boardwalk Empire alum Bobby Cannavale says he is eager to get to work playing a 1970s-era record executive on a new HBO series that starts filming in New York this May.

"It's a new show from Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. It's their untitled rock 'n' roll project," Cannavale told UPI during a roundtable interview with reporters in New York Thursday to promote his upcoming movie musical Annie.

"I've been attached to it for a few years now since I started doing Boardwalk and we finally shot [the pilot] over the summer and Marty directed it and I'm excited that we're finally doing it. It's just got a great pedigree and it's a great subject and I get to shoot at home," he said of the HBO series. "It's similar to Boardwalk in that there are fictitious [characters] and then there are some real people. I have a scene with Robert Plant in the pilot."

Annie is set to open in U.S. theaters Dec. 19.
