Krysten Ritter to play Jessica Jones in new Marvel show

Ritter is believed to have beat out fellow finalist Teresa Palmer for the lead role in the series.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Actress Krysten Ritter has joined the cast of an upcoming Marvel series that will air on Netflix.

According to Deadline, Ritter, 32, will play super heroine Jessica Jones, a character that also appeared in Brian Michael Bendis' series Alias.

The 13-episode series will see Jessica Jones suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and come to the realization she must stop being a super hero. She then opens a detective agency though which she can still help people and other super heroes solve crimes.

The show will be the second from a four-deal series between Marvel and Netflix and is expected to debut next year. Ritter is believed to have beat out fellow finalist Teresa Palmer for the lead role.

The actress is best known for her roles in Don't trust the B-- and on AMC's Breaking Bad.
