Cliff Curtis to lead 'The Walking Dead' companion series

The actor will star alongside Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Cliff Curtis has joined AMC's upcoming Walking Dead companion series.

The 46-year-old actor will portray male lead Sean Cabrera, a divorced school teacher with a teenage son. Curtis will star opposite a yet-to-be-cast actress as guidance counselor Nancy Tomkins, with Alycia Debnam-Carey and Frank Dillane as her children Ashley and Nick.

The new program, code-named Cobalt, will feature all new characters, and take place outside of Georgia. The Walking Dead producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will serve as executive producers on the pilot.

Curtis is known for portraying Reuben "Rabbit" Palchuk on Trauma, Agent Dax Miller on Missing and Javier Acosta on Gang Related. He has also appeared in a number of films, including Blow, The Fountain and Colombiana.

The Walking Dead is based on Kirkman's comic book series of the same name, and debuted on AMC in 2010. The drama is in its fifth season, and is currently on midseason break. Cobalt has yet to announce a premiere date.
