Lauren Graham to lead new comedy 'Kate on Later'

The actress will also executive produce alongside Ellen DeGeneres and Liz Tuccillo.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Lauren Graham has been cast in new NBC comedy Kate on Later.

The 47-year-old actress will star as an aspiring late night talk show host given the opportunity to break the glass ceiling of a male-dominated industry. Graham will also executive produce with Ellen DeGeneres and Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City, He's Just Not That Into You).

No major network channel has featured a female late night talk show host. Jimmy Fallon took over NBC's The Tonight Show for Jay Leno in February, and Stephen Colbert will succeed David Letterman on CBS' The Late Show in 2015.

Graham is known for portraying Lorelai Gilmore on The WB series Gilmore Girls, and currently stars as Sarah Braverman on Parenthood. The NBC comedy debuted in 2010, and is in the midst of a sixth and final season.
