NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Natalie Morales and Willie Geist have not been fired from Today.
Us Weekly reported the co-anchors had been let go Wednesday, and declared the pair have lined up new work at ABC and CBS, respectively. Former Today general manager Jamie Horowitz was reportedly behind the alleged changes, but NBC has come forward to deny the rumors.
"NBC's Today has the best anchor team in morning television," NBC News president Deborah Turness said in a statement. "The entire Today show anchor team -- Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Carson Daly, Tamron Hall, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb -- are incredibly talented, valued and have our support."
"In response to the false rumors that have been circulated about our anchor team, NBC wants to be absolutely clear: The rumors are wrong -- period," she asserted. "This is the team we are committed to. And this is the team that our viewers turn to in the morning."
Morales has been with the morning program since 2006, and was made a co-anchor in 2011. Sources told Page Six last week the television personality was seeking other employment due to a power struggle with Turness and co-host Tamron Hall, but executive producer Don Nash denied Morales would be leaving.
Geist joined Today in 2010, and serves as a co-anchor and fill-in replacement for Matt Lauer and Lester Holt. He is also a correspondent for NBC News and NBC Sports, and co-hosts Morning Joe on MSNBC.
