LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Idris Elba will produce a Luther remake for Fox.

The 42-year-old actor portrayed the title character, Detective John Luther, on the original BBC series. Elba will executive produce alongside Luther creator Neil Cross, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.

Luther debuted in 2010, and concluded a third season in 2013. The drama follows Luther, a troubled but brilliant detective, as he pursues dangerous serial killers and navigates his complicated personal life.

Elba is also known for portraying Russell "Stringer" Bell on HBO series The Wire, and has appeared in such films as Prometheus, Thor and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. The actor may reprise Luther in a future film, but not television seasons.
