LOS ANGELES, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Richard Gere film American Gigolo is being adapted for television. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the 1980 movie, will executive produce the series alongside KristieAnne Reed for Paramount TV. Michael Azzolino will produce, and original director and writer Paul Schrader will serve as an executive consultant.

"With its signature noir aesthetic, American Gigolo has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I'm thrilled to partner with [Paramount CEO] Brady [Grey] and [Paramount TV president] Amy [Powell] on remaking it into a television series," Bruckheimer said in a statement.
American Gigolo starred Gere as Julian Kaye, a narcissistic and superficial male escort in Los Angeles. The character becomes involved with Michelle Stratton (Lauren Hutton), the wife of a local politician, and is framed for the murder of a financier's wife.
"When it comes to making great television entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer Television is in a league unto themselves," Powell lauded. "We take enormous pride in collaborating with Jerry, Jonathan and KristieAnne on developing a drama series that is every bit as cinematic, suspenseful and stylish as the film."
Bruckheimer has produced such films as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop and the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and television programs such as Without a Trace, Cold Case and The Amazing Race.
