LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The Flash has received a full-season pickup at The CW.
The series premiered to 4.2 million viewers October 7, and will now air for a total 23 episodes. The network also ordered a full season of Gina Rodriguez dramedy Jane the Virgin two episodes into its run.
"We have had a fantastic start to our season this year, with The Flash launching as our most-watched series premiere ever," CW president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. "The Flash and Jane have both exceeded our expectations on all counts. I'm thrilled to announce full-season orders for both of these terrific new shows."
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as the titular DC Comics superhero. The character begins as socially awkward Central City assistant forensic investigator Barry Allen, and discovers he has superhuman speed after a laboratory accident.
The series exists in the same universe as fellow CW program Arrow, with Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Dr. Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne/Professor Zoom, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West.
The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
