LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Kathy Bates may depart American Horror Story after Freak Show.

The 66-year-old actress joined the FX anthology series as Delphine LaLaurie in season three, Coven, and currently stars as bearded lady Ethel Darling on season four, Freak Show. American Horror Story was renewed earlier this week, but it remains to be seen if Bates will return for season five.

"I love getting these fantastic characters to play," the actress told E! News. "Ryan's told me that he wants me to come back next year and it's getting hard to refuse, let me tell you! Everything's grown so much, even since last year. It's amazing. I can't believe it."

Creator Ryan Murphy has asked Bates, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange thus far to return. Lange has starred on all four seasons of American Horror Story, but confirmed to Entertainment Weekly in November 2013 season four will be her last.

"It ends up being a lot of time during the year being committed to something," she confessed. "This is a 6-month commitment every year. That will be four years in a row. I want to have more time to myself, I guess... I think four years doing something is a sufficient amount of time."
