ATLANTA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Nina Dobrev is excited to portray Tatia on The Originals.
The 25-year-old actress and co-star Joseph Morgan discussed the mysterious character in an interview with TVLine. Tatia is first mentioned in The Vampire Diaries as the original doppelgänger Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus (Morgan) Mikaelson both fell in love with, and will appear in an upcoming crossover episode of spinoff series The Originals.
"It's shocking, I think," Morgan said of the storyline. "It's pretty grim. I don't want to spoil too much, but it's definitely revealing of the brothers and what happened back then."
The episode will take place in "the time of the Vikings," after Elijah and Klaus become vampires and Klaus' mother, Esther (Alice Evans), curses him. Dobrev, who portrays Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on The Vampire Diaries, told the website she was initially hesitant to add another character to her repertoire, but quickly warmed to the idea.
"[Executive producer] Julie Plec pitched the story, which was actually cool and made a lot of sense, so that got me excited," she shared. "As much as I joke and say that playing a lot of characters is crazy -- which it is -- it's also fun to create new people. It helps keep things fresh after six years, you know?"
The Originals premiered its second season October 6, and the Tatia crossover episode is scheduled for November 4. The Vampire Diaries is in its sixth season, and airs Thursdays on The CW.
