'Twin Peaks' revival in the works at Showtime

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Twin Peaks is being revived at Showtime.

Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost teased the news Friday on Twitter, and confirmed the project with a video post Monday.

"Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee," Lynch wrote. "It is happening again."

The video opens with a shot of Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer in the Black Lodge, and transitions to the Twin Peaks welcome sign from the original opening credits. Overlaying text in the show's signature neon-outlined font indicates the revival will be set 25 years later, and is scheduled to air in 2016.

According to the video's description, the series will be a limited, nine-episode continuation. Lynch and Frost will write each episode, with Lynch as director.

Twin Peaks debuted on ABC in 1990, and aired for two seasons before being canceled. The series follows FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) as he investigates the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and discovers supernatural elements in her hometown of Twin Peaks. The revival promises "long-awaited answers" and a "satisfying conclusion."
