The Night Manager follows Jonathan Pine, a former British soldier turned night auditor for a luxurious hotel. The character meets a French-Arab woman named Sophie who has ties to black marketeer Richard Onslow Roper. Sophie begins providing Pine with incriminating evidence on Roper's weapons trade, but is discovered and subsequently killed. Pine agrees to go undercover and work with intelligence operatives to bring Roper down.

Several le Carre novels have been adapted for television, including A Perfect Spy and A Murder of Quality. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, A Most Wanted Man and The Constant Gardener are among his books previously adapted for film.

Hiddleston is best known for his role as Loki in the Thor movies and The Avengers, and has also appeared in Midnight in Paris and Only Lovers Left Alive. Laurie starred as Dr. Gregory House on NBC series House for eight seasons, and will appear in Tomorrowland in 2015.
