Pam Dawber to guest star on PBS's Robin Williams Tribute Special

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- PBS has announced plans to air a tribute for Robin Williams that features interviews from friends of the late Oscar-winning actor on September 9.

The one-hour special, titled Robin Williams Remembered - A pioneer of Television Special, will also include never-before-seen footage from Williams' last television interview where he discussed his early days as a stand up comedian, his work as an actor and his efforts to act for the troops overseas.

The actor's Mork & Mindy co-star Pam Dawber will give an exclusive interview for the special as will Henry Winkler, Yakov Smirnoff, Louie Anderson, Paul Rodriguez, Rick Overton, Blake Clark, Pauly Shore, George Schlatter, Penny Marshall, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Stiller and Jimmie Walker.

PBS executive producer Steve Boettcher said the idea for the special came from a desire to show viewers what the PBS team saw the last time they interviewed the Mrs. Doubtfire star.

"We wanted to share with PBS viewers the Robin that we saw - the very unassuming, caring, genuine and gentle man who took his acting seriously, but was able to make others laugh. We hope this special provides more insight to this incredible man, in his own words," Boettcher said.

Williams was found dead in his Tiburon, Calif., home on August 11. A preliminary report on his death shows he likely hung himself and died of "suicide due to asphyxia." The actor's ashes were reportedly scattered over the San Francisco Bay the day after his death.
