EDINBURGH, Scotland, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- True Detective season two is reportedly "not as dark" as season one.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo detailed the new season at the Guardian International Television Festival in Edinburgh on Thursday.
"It's still dark," Lombardo revealed. "[Creator] Nic [Pizzolatto] explores the darkness in people's souls ... It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride. Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul."
Season one starred Matthew McConaughey as Rustin "Rust" Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Martin "Marty" Hart, two Louisiana State Police homicide detectives on the trail of a serial killer over seventeen years. The series follows an anthology format, and a brand-new cast will take over for season two.
The new season will take place in California, and Lombardo confirmed the cast will be led by three cops, a woman and two men. Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Elisabeth Moss are rumored for the roles, with Vince Vaughn as the potential antagonist.
True Detective season two will premiere in 2015.
