The spinoff focuses on Goodman, and takes place six years before the events of AMC's Breaking Bad. The character is known by his given name, Jimmy McGill, and other series regulars include Jonathan Banks as private investigator Mike Erhmantraut, Michael McKean as Saul's brother Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin and Michael Mando as Nacho.

Creator Vince Gilligan has confirmed the show is "indeed a period piece" with "non-linear storytelling" that "jumps around in time." Breaking Bad's Walter White (Bryan Cranston) may be written in "if it makes sense" and they find the right "way to do it," and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) might also return.

Better Call Saul will premiere in February on AMC.
