NEW YORK, July 15 (UPI) -- Debra Messing opened up about her former co-star Harry Connick Jr.'s new American Idol gig while speaking to reporters at the 2014 NBC Summer TCA press tour.
The 45-year-old actress, who played Connick Jr.'s wife on Will & Grace, told E! News that it was "joyful" to see the actor as a judge in the singing competition.
"I've been obsessed with American Idol ever since it began anyway, so to see my buddy being the judge is just icing on the cake," Messing told the press junket. "It's just so joyful for me to watch him. I love him to death."
Messing attended Sunday's event to promote her upcoming dramedy, The Mysteries of Laura, where she'll star as a homicide detective trying to raise twin boys in New York City. The show will air Wednesday
"I didn't have to choose," the actress told TV Guide of the series. "Do I want to do a comedy? Or do I want to do a drama? It's both."
