LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- After just one season and plenty of off-screen drama, Nickelodeon announced the cancelation of Sam & Cat.

The comedy series, which starred Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy had been put on hiatus earlier this year after rumors of discord behind the scenes.

McCurdy didn't show up to this year's Kids' Choice Awards, vaguely explaining she didn't like how Nickelodeon treated her.

Meanwhile, there were rumors both she and Grande showed up late to filming on more than one occasion.

"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat," the network said in a statement. "We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."

Grande posted a lengthy letter to Twitter Saturday about the news, notably not mentioning McCurdy by name.

"I want to thank Nickelodeon for making a childhood dream of mine come true, for being a family to me, for being so accommodating and supportive of my multitasking with my music career, and for of course introducing me to many of my fans however many years ago," Grande wrote, referring to the character's start four years ago on Victorious.

Likewise, McCurdy's character, Sam, got her start seven years ago on iCarly.
