Netflix 'Daredevil' series acquires Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk

LOS ANGELES, June 10 (UPI) -- Vincent D'Onofrio has joined the cast of Netflix series Marvel's Daredevil.

The 54-year-old actor is best known for his role as Detective Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and will appear as villain Wilson Fisk in the new streaming series.

"We're incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining Marvel's Daredevil in such an integral role," Marvel head of television Jeph Loeb said in a statement. "Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero."

Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, is a New York crime lord in the Marvel universe. He is the nemesis of both Daredevil and Spider-Man in the comics, and is father to antihero Richard Fisk. Wilson possesses a genius intellect and exceptional skills in the martial arts, and is also a master manipulator and strategist.

The Netflix program is being produced by Steven S. DeKnight, and stars Charlie Cox as Daredevil. The show follows the adventures of blind lawyer Matt Murdock, who moonlights as the superhero title character. The series begins filming in July, and will premiere in 2015.
